My only kicker on the 5 stars is that I looked up online the modifications to do to these units to get better reception. I pulled it out of the box and did the mods. My smoker sets in front of the shop about 125 feet from the house, I can take the receiver anywhere in my house and it reads/receives great. The transmitter distance is more than adequate....even through walls. Although it is mildly inconvenient to have the transmitter on/off switch inside the battery compartment, the device is designed that way to protect the switch from moisture/weather. The battery compartment door has a gasket to keep the switch waterproof and it is easily opened with a fingertip. So far I consider it a good investment. ...more
